Director’s Weekly Production Blog – Friday 27 February 2015

Hi, Sophie J Lees (writer, director and exec producer of Control Loss) here again with the latest edition of the BTS Director’s weekly production blog.

I must apologise for the last couple of weeks as I was ill on and off then had other media work commitments for a charity I am a member of and a PR officer for (which is very exciting and rewarding).

This week I had a creative revelation and spur, as I started the updated scripting, which broke me out of my creative blocks with a blast. This led to the complete change in the film and narrative. Originally this was going to be an alien encounter and an alien possession film and looked all set to be a brilliant 10 minute film. However something didn’t seem quite right as I looked through the narrative. It felt like it was getting to be an over complicated story. My inner feeling prodded me to keep it exciting but simple thus led me to the re-srcipting of it to just make it an alien encounter exploring the sleep paralysis and entity attack. This worked in very well as we have the re-launch coming soon. This will relaunch the branding as well as the updated narrative and look of the film.

I will be doing my funding pitches soon along with the branding re-shake and relaunch. Also hand in hand with this, i will be starting a Vlog so watch out for all the announcements and updates.

The next edition of the Production Blog will be Friday 6 March

Director’s Weekly Production Blog – Monday 2 February 2015

This week I have been dealing with the re-shaping and relaunch of the new narrative of Control Loss. I have reshaped the narrative of the film as the original narrative was just focused on the sleep paralysis and the Entity attack themes and connotations. This was leading the whole look, style and narrative of the film down the typical “nightmare” demon attack that has been done time and time again in the cliche horror genre. I wanted to break free from this. I also felt that the Sleep paralysis and entity attack scenes alone was not enough to sustain the kind of film I wanted to produce.

I wanted to produce a good 10 minute, short new age film, not an experimental horror film. I quite dislike modern horror, but I would work on it in other projects. I love Sci-fi, thrillers and the paranormal as well as what we label new age (esoteric new age not the stereotypical hippy new age). So I wanted to go back to my original narrative of Entity attack / alien encounter, 24 hours of paranoia and possession leading to exciting climax. However it would be an updated and slimed lined version of the narrative as my original got over complicated with the characters and cramming too much of the possession over the narrative timeline.

As for the relaunch, I am currently working on the social network sites and etc to recreate the branding and letting audiences know about the relaunch.

As you can imagine, me being writer, director and producer, this entails a lot of online socialising and a lot of paper work and creation / creative sessions. But this is all part of the fun of my work.

Thank you for reading and stay tuned for all updates. The next Director’s Production Blog edition will be released on Friday 6 February 2015.

Control Loss – Narrative Research: Sleep Paralysis

One of my main topics for the narrative of this film is Sleep paralysis.

Sleep Paralyses: “A condition in which, upon waking, a person is aware of the surroundings but is unable to move.” – REF – The American Heritage® Stedman’s Medical Dictionary
Copyright © 2002, 2001, 1995 by Houghton Mifflin Company. Published by Houghton Mifflin Company. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/sleep+paralysis

I have experienced Sleep Paralysis many times and each time was different. On the rare occasion, I have experienced the typical scary and nightmarish Encounter and panic situation. Most times I know what it is and relax into sleep or hopefully a lucid dream, however sleep paralysis is very different for each person and each time and the scary encounters are very common.

The typical sleep paralysis looks like this.

You wake up, anytime between midnight to 5am, suddenly from a dream or night.mare. You have trouble breathing, it feels like there’s a led blanket on your chest. You try to move but you can’t. Twitching your fingers and toes with great effort and rolling your eyes is all you can do. Panic, fight or flight is the only things you can think and the only emotions you feel in that moment of time. Seconds feel like never-ending hours. Then you hear ringing in you ears or thrashing wind. More panic. Then you see something or a paranormal encounter happens. Often it is demons, ghosts, The Entity or Alien encounters, This feels like a real event. Is it a dream? You hope it is.

My encounter with THE ENTITY

Hi, I’m writer, director and Producer of Control Loss, and I am founder of SJLees Media as well as a truth seeker. The following article is on my true and only terrifying encounter with that all demonic ENTITY.

For a small (law of attraction) goal I had been attempting to have Lucid dreams and Out of Body Experiences, so I could see the truth behind them for my self. Over those past few weeks my biological clock kept waking me up from 2 am to 5 am each night. However this night would be a night I’d never forget.

It was within the twilight hours and I had been having a very restless night through waking up every hour or so. I woke up in that half sleep and half awake state and something felt wrong. I felt very heavy, like that lead blanket feeling people report. Yet I could just about move my head to look up at the curtains to see what was wrong. I stared up at them for a few seconds, a feeling of unease growing quickly, when I saw a dark shadow forming on the curtains. It looked like a humanoid monster with horns. Panic set in, though not quite with it, i knew the signs. I snapped my head round to the opposite wall where a dark humid shadow figure was forming and towering over me. I was trying to scream and panic but the paralysis was tightening its grip on me. The shadow Entity went to grab me as I struggled to fight back, kicking my duvets off me and all. Then like a bolt of revelation I realised it was just sleep paralysis and a nightmarish vision (probably due to working on this film and researching the phenomena). The whole thing stopped and I woke up to my bedroom and bed covers being just as they were when I first went to bed.

I personally think that sleep paralysis is a main reason and cause of a lot of night attacks from aliens and devils and other entity sightings, but not in all the cases. I am open minded to all sides of the argument but do definitely agree that there is more to sleep paralysis, Out of Body Experiences, dreams and mind states and Lucid dreams. I also keep to this view through my own personal experiences and advise people not to just disbelieve or wholly believe unless you experience it for yourself.

Thank you for reading and feel free to post comments and questions, I’d love to hear other experiences and views.
